Details: | SUMMARY: WTP Operator Quits 3/20/2006, temporary back-up in place. DETAILS: The DWP was notified on 3/21/06 by Rick Hallmark, Coos County Environmental Health Dept., that the City of Powers certified operator quit and left the water system without an operator. I spoke with Sean G. Negherbon at the Powers WTP (541-439-3102) and confirmed that he is filling in at the plant until 3/31/2006. Negherbon is a WT3 with an FE at the City of Myrtle Creek. I also spoke with Bob Strassner who is the Powers DRC, but regularly works as the WT4/FE plant supervisor at Coos Bay/North Bend and as contract operator through HBH Consulting. Bob said the Powers City Council is having an emergency meeting today to get a plan of action for obtaining a new plant operator. Strassners hope is that the board will look to LBCC for a newly trained operator. Negherbon and Strassner got the Keystone package plant producing acceptable water on 3/21 before water storage ran out. They have encountered problems with valving on the backwash and also sand issues on the intake. These problems are keeping the plant from operating at its full potential and the water produced is barely able to meet turbidity standards. They will work to fix these problems. ACTION NEEDED: At this point, the plant is operating and producing acceptable water. They have an operator at least until 3/31. Strassner will keep John Potts and I informed of the Boards progress in locating a new operator. John and/or myself can provide TA to the new operator if needed. |
