Details: | SUMMARY: Received request from Junction City for assistance reqarding sdeiment in drinking water well. DETAILS: The City of Junction City has a ground water system that supplies water to approximately 4500 persons. They system operates three groundwater wells. This visit was in regard to the well at 8th and Deal Streets. This well is producing a significant amount of the sediment. The well is equipped with a Valve and Filter Company (VAF) Automatic Self-Cleaning Water Filter, which appears to be undersized. When the well is operated at full capacity, the screen plugs up rapidly, despite continuously backwashing. Actions Performed: Visited well o physically inspect facilities. Inspected sediment coming out of VAF filter backwash. It was fairly clear that the VAF filters is undersized for the flows which the City is attempting to achieve, rather than operating incorrectly. This was based on observation and previous experience with FAF filter. Took measurements and photos to determine whether there is a possibility of fitting the well with additional screen filters ( or a larger screen filter). ACTION NEEDED: Complete report on the sizing requirements for additional and or replacement filters as well as preparing a preliminary budget for the improvements. In addition to the sediment problem in this well, the City is experiencing nitrate problems in another well. |
