Details: | SUMMARY: Water provider had a major leak -could not locate-requested advice DETAILS: The rainbow rock system noticed that their water consumption had suddenly increased and that their tanks were emptying through the night when there was little or no consumption. The estimated the leak to be around 8-10 gpm which is large for their small system. They were worried that their water supply pond was drying up and were unable to find the leak. Actions Performed: We spoke about ways to track down and isolate the leak. Through closing valves, the operators were able to identify a section of line along Hwy 101 about 1/3 mile long where the leak appeared to be. We spoke to a leak detection company an obtained proposal from the company to locate the leak using traditional audible systems. If this did not work, the company can inject a pressurized lighter than air gas into the line. The gas would escape the leak and be visible with instruments at the surface, even through asphalt. ACTION NEEDED: Make sure leak was found and that the water loss has stopped. |
