Details: | SUMMARY: Asistance with Water Quality issues due to Hydrogen Sulfide DETAILS: BACKGROUND: Circuit Rider was contracted by system to provide assistance with elimination or reduction of sulfur smell in drinking water. The Operator treats the water with permanganate and sodium hydrochloride to reduce sulfur odor. Upon visiting the District, it was revealed that the hydrogen sulfide odor was not present immediately after treatment, but develops in dead end water mains. As the water system was previously unfiltered, it was determined that there are likely hydrogen sulfide producing bacteria present in sediment at the bottom of some pipes. The evidence for this was further enhanced by the fact that the blow offs present on these lines were too small to provide for adequate flushing. ACTIONS PROFORMED: Provide recommendations for hot water heater cores which will result in less reaction with the hydrogen sulfide. ACTION NEEDED: Provide further assistance with hydrogen sulfide control.. |
