Details: | SUMMARY: Coliform positive bacteria sample results chlorine residual problems DETAILS: System had MCL Coliform problems in Nov 2006, 4 TC+ results. I visited the system Dec 15, 06 to evaluate the problem. The new Stenner chlorine injection pump is working, however no free chlorine residual is being maintained out in the system. I suggested that they raise the chlorine dosage until he maintains a free chlorine residual. He probably has not achieved breakpoint chlorination yet. He can adjust the chlorine to water ratio in the solution tank incrementally. Currently the ratio of 12.5 percent chlorine to 15 gallons of water. I also recommended that he sample for total chlorine residual to see how much chlorine is combined. I discussed their interest in installing a new reservoir for chlorine contact time to replace the existing 1000 gallon hydro pneumatic tank. They are proposing to install a 5000 gallon plastic reservoir in a yet to be constructed building near the existing well and chlorination building. I encouraged them to first conduct raw water sampling for at least six months with a 12 month sampling schedule more desirable in order to determine raw water quality year round before adding a new reservoir as it is uncertain of the coliform problems are source related or not . I sent a report to the system outlining my recommendations. ACTION NEEDED: None |
