Details: | SUMMARY: Received request from CWS for assistance with control and alarm system DETAILS: Watseco-Barview owns and operates a community water system composed of a distribution system, a well pump station, and a 330.000 gallon storage tank. The well pump station is located 0.41 miles from the tank and manually fills the tank. Recently, the CWS contacted the circuit rider to request help in evaluating the tank and well sites for radio telemetry in order to automate tank filling and transmit alarms to operations personnel. There are no existing automation controls or alarm system and no telephone or power service is available at the tank site. The tank site is remote from the pump station and the trajectory is not line-of-sight. The tank is the sole supply of water for the town and has drained dangerously low on several occasions. The operator has tried to develop a plan for correcting this problem but has received conflicting information from contractors and requested that the circuit rider provide a recommendation. The CWS also requested that the circuit rider provide a recommendation for a standby power solution capable of maintaining water to the tank in the event of a power outage. The pump station was without utility company power for 3 days recently. Larry Clifton, the operator, and I visited the well station and tank site. I conducted a data radio test between the pump station location and the reservoir tank and verified that radio is a viable option. I also reviewed the current electrical system and talked to Larry about standby generators and how a generator could be added to their system. I provided a report to the CWS which describes possible upgrades to the system. The report included budgetary estimates. ACTION NEEDED: Answer questions generated by the report. |
