Details: | SUMMARY: Received request from CWS for assistance improving their filter performance DETAILS: Milo Academy owns and operates a surface water treatment plant and distribution system that supplies water to homes, a boarding school, a church and a business. The academy had initially requested help improving their treated water quality. Upon investigating the water quality issues we noticed that the filter media was not in proper operating condition. Part of the filter problem is that the backwash valve has no speed control to regulate how it opens and closes. The academy has purchased new filter media but before they replace it they have asked for help researching a new backwash valve. I have been working with academy staff and EMA marketing to find a solution to this problem. ACTION NEEDED: I will meet with academy staff to finalize a decision on the backwash valve. They have also requested technical assistance to replace the media. I will provide them with written material as well as onsite assistance when the media replacement takes place. By making some small operational changes we have dropped filter turbidity considerably and reduced chlorine demand as a result. The system recently received their latest DBP results and were pleased to report that DBP levels were down considerably. |
