Details: | SUMMARY: Assistance compiling an O and M manual with SOPs DETAILS: HBH Consulting Engineers Inc., representing the ODHS-DWP circuit rider program, received a list of systems with request for technical assistance or deficiencies noted as a result of a sanitary survey. I met with the public works superintendent Kyle Shauer. We discussed his history with the city and toured the facilities. The city treats a ground water well this time of the year at a rate of 550 gpm. The principal chemical addition is liquid chlorine for disinfection and the occasional use of a polymer to sequester the high iron in the backwash recycle water. Kyle is currently working with an under sized settling tank and as a result even at very low recycle rates experiences shortened filter runs and break through of the filters due to the high iron return water. Currently the city is blending water from a second source to overcome some of the problems but would like to investigate other methods to mitigate the high iron issues. Once back at the office I reviewed the example outline for the standard O and M manual and asked that Kyle have his operators get all their manuals in one location prior to my next visit when we can, following the outline, begin to organize and centrally locate a reference for their operation. ACTION NEEDED: Maintain contact with Kyle as to progress he and his staff are making toward our goal set at our meeting on the 20th. |
