Details: | SUMMARY: Assistance with general operations and management DETAILS: This CWS is owned and operated by the City of Unity. It has 47 connections and serves a population of approximately 130. Three active wells supply the system. The water is pumped to the reservoir at the south edge of town. The reservoir has a separate inlet and outlet, serving the system by gravity. The flow meter for wells 1 and 2 is not working, nor is the electronic control for the pump in well 1. When the previous operators quit earlier this year, Cherry and her husband Rance Dickson became responsible for the operation of the system. They have very little experience and no formal training in water system operation. I contacted Cherry Dickson, City Recorder, and made an appointment to meet at Unity. Met with both Cherry and Rance Dickson. Located emergency response plan, coliform sampling plan, cross connection control ordinance, 2005 consumer confidence report (CCR) and operation and maintenance manual. Reviewed ongoing monitoring, management, and operation responsibilities (see attached letter). Inspected the wells, control building, and reservoir. Discussed the need to repair or replace the flow meter for wells 1 and 2, as well as the electronic controls for the pump in well 1. Mr. Dickson said that he would try to get approval from the city council to spend the money for this. ACTION NEEDED: System needs to 1) complete and distribute the CCR for 2006, 2) submit a copy of the CCR and certification form to the state Drinking Water Program and 3) complete the annual summary report and mail to the state.
