Details: | SUMMARY: Recommendations for raw water intake modifications suggested in engineering report from Nov. 03 DETAILS: HBH staff originally visited the system in 2003 to help identify and offer treatment assistance for a suspected algae problem in the source water. Color and manganese content in the raw water were subsequently identified. It was suggested that the water association consider modifying its intake to allow water to be drawn off of the top of the source pond where manganese levels are expected to be lower. Conceptual plans were developed for a low-cost floating intake system that could be constructed by the association using a commercially available NMFS-approved intake screen. The association is now ready to construct the intake and had additional questions regarding specific materials and how to connect to the existing intake pipe. Researched options for fittings to adapt from the existing 4" PVC intake piping to planned 2" suction piping to be used with the suggested floating intake system. Provided material suggestions and budgetary pricing. ACTION NEEDED: None |
