| Details: | SUMMARY: Public Meeting DETAILS: A public meeting of the water system customers was held in Hermiston. Representatives from PUC, WRD, OECDD, and DWP were present. The system has had problems obtaining funds for their water system project of drilling a new well and replacing the reservoir. Tony Justus with WRD explained how the system was exceeding their water right on one well, and that an application had been made to transfer the existing water rights to a new well. I explained the potential health risks of continuing to use the existing system. Customers were presented with the options of either limiting their water use to indoor use only, or having PUC regulate the system and raising monthly rates significantly to fund the project. Kathy Miller from PUC explained that they would help obtain funding by regulating the water systems rates if at least 20% of the customers petitioned for PUC to step in. The majority of customers agreed that they were willing to be regulated in order to proceed with the project. A petition was drafted and signed by the customers. ACTION NEEDED: HBH Engineers to provide revised project cost estimate. | ||
