Details: | SUMMARY: Request for Update on Status of Westport Water Association DETAILS: Our office received a call from Joell Archibald, Clatsop Co. Health and Human Services Director, about Congressman Wus office expressing concern that Westport WA has been out of water for a few days. Peter Farrelly cofirmed the question with Joell and contacted Calvin Shulda (operator for Westport Water Association). Calvin said that nothing is out of the ordinary and that everyone has water, with the exception of a couple of services near the Woodson slide area. There was a breif 1 hour outtage for 7 people, while Calvin fixed a small main leak 1-2 weeks ago, which could have caused the confusion. Westport will have challenges meeting peak summer demands because they are using Wanna Water/Taylorvilles GW source to feed the larger customer base. To best solve that problem this summer, they are looking to temporarily bring Knapp Spring on-line, which has be inoperable for 20+ years, in addition to Waunas spring and reservoir. If the two water systems merged or Wauna decided to develop Knapp Spring as a permanent source, they would have to likely install a chlorinator, add electricity to Knapp Spring, and re-rock the road-- roughly costing $200,000. Restoring Westports original intake would cost over $700,000. FEMA would pay for the intake restoration, but not the merging with Wauna Water. ACTION NEEDED: Joell Archibald was relayed the information who then contacted Congressman Wus office. |
