Details: | SUMMARY: VOC Detection follow up DETAILS: System has had numerous detections of PCE since 1998 and has conducted increased monitoring during that time period. No sample results have been over the MCL of 0.05 mgl. In August 2007 I visited the system to provide other circuit rider assistance and recommended they sample at the wellhead prior to any treatment in an attempt to localize the source as all VOC samples have been collected at the same tap in the pump house after chlorination and the storage tank and there was no obvious source of VOC contamination in the area. The latest VOC sample collected at the wellhead was ND for PCE. I met with Jim Nash from Stutzman Services who maintains the system and had collected the VOC samples over the years and inspected for any potential VOC sources in the pump house area. In my opinion there may be two potential sources of the PCE in the system-- the old air compressor that charges the pressure tank and the 20K Gallon Steel Reservoir, which has an interior coating. The air compressor is now out of service and will be replaced with a new one soon. The reservoir was recently cleaned and inspected by LiquidVision. ACTION NEEDED: I am requesting the report on the cleaning to determine the type of tank coating is present. I will get the reservoir cleaning report from Mike and review. |
