Details: | SUMMARY: Complaint about high chlorine levels and taste DETAILS: I got a call from a relative of a tenant of BVW. She believes the chlorine level is too high and undrinkable. I talked to Patty who said the chlorine is set between 0.6 and 0.9ppm. There has been no recent work on the distribution system or shock chlorination. The chlorinator has gone through plan review. I emailed Pete F and asked if the chlorine level could be lowered to 0.2ppm. His response is attached. I called the complaintant back and told her that the chlorine levels are not considered excessive. Explained why they are chlorinating and the difficulty of balancing the levels throughout a large distribution system. I suggested that her relative may want to store drinking water in an open container for awhile so the chlorine can off-gas. She was disappointed that there was no real solution from her point of view but thanked me for my efforts. I also called Patty and made her aware of Petes recommendation. She has not had any other complaints from tenants not have I. While it would be ideal to maintain a 0.2ppm I doubt it could be achieved with such a large distribution system and assure adequate disinfection. ACTION NEEDED: Monitor for additional complaints. |
