Details: | SUMMARY: Responded to repeat samples positive for TC DETAILS: Matt phoned yesterday to say that two of the 4 repeat samples were positive for TC. He reinstigated their chlorine residual system right away (abandoned 3 years ago) by refilling the chlorine tank at the former dosage. I told him to post a Tier 2 Public Notice (gave him the weblink), and told him to fix any leaks in the system before shock chlorinating - theres at least one leak in the pumphouse. I discussed the situation with other DWP staff, and we decided that Matt could shock the well in addition to the storage tanks to make sure he got all the bacteria, but that is his choice. The well has no history of TC, and we have no sample from the well now. The problem is more likely in the storage tanks or distribution and showed up now because they abandoned their practice of a chlorine residual. I researched the proper technique for disinfecting storage tanks, and finally found easy-to-follow directions from an AWWA guidebook (not the standards), so I scanned the pages and emailed those to Matt today. He told me his disinfection plans - a two-day process during which he will provide bottled water to the few current occupants of the camp. I included several pointers in the email with the scanned pages, and informed him of the required 5 samples next month. ACTION NEEDED: Await results of TC tests after disinfection. |
