Details: | SUMMARY: No Pressure Tier 1 Boil Water Notice DETAILS: A 14-inch water main developed a large leak through a 12-ft long crack in the mainline in front of th Best Western on HWY 30 and Sykes Road. According to Columbia Fire and Rescue Chief Jay Tappan, the first calls started coming in about 10 pm. Neal Sheppeard was called out with the crew at 10 pm and had the main isolated in about 2 hours. They had received calls from customers complaining about not having water. I instructed him that if the leak caused a zero pressure condition anywhere in the distribution system, a Tier 1 no pressure boil notice would need to be issued. He said that they were going to issue one City wide, since it was unclear how much of the City experienced a total loss of pressure and the pressure had since been restored. I directed him to the boil notice template on-line and the line break best management practices in the Fall 2008 pipeline. I told Neal that they need to collect additional coliform samples in affected areas to determine if there is any coliform bacteria present in the system. The boil water notice could be lifted once the results of the sampling demonstrated the absence of coliform bacteria. ACTION NEEDED: City to issue Tier 1 precautionary boil notice and conduct coliform sampling to determine if contamination exists. | ||
