Details: | SUMMARY: Discussion of slow sand filter coliform counts and CT requirements DETAILS: Steve called today to discuss the coliform counts on the slow sand filter. Raw counts showed 62.4 for total, 0 for e.coli. Finished showed 43.5 for total, 0 for e.coli. Removal rate isnt stellar, but perhaps the filter is still ripening. Steve asked whether the City could put the filtered water into distribution. Decision was to allow the City to do so, with the understanding that more counts are required next week and perhaps monthly after that until either the counts show appropriate removal or it is demonstrated that the filter simply cant achieve 2-log removal. If the City shows an e.coli result, that may change. At the same time, the City needs to determine CT by providing 1st and 2nd user data points - volume of pipe, flow rate, pH, temperature and chlorine residual. It seems unlikely that CT will be met at the 1st user. Depending on data provided, the City may have to look at alternatives such as putting in a storage tank on the Citys side of the meter at the 1st user. The 2nd user may provide the appropriate CT. We will be looking at whether viral CT is met as well. ACTION NEEDED: Steve will need to fax or email the coliform count results to my attention as well as take the appropriate data so that CT can be calculated. |
