Details: | SUMMARY: Inspected slow sand filter plant and reviewed operations. DETAILS: Trevor is the new operator (since June 2009) and was seeking assistance in operational issues, especially cleaning of the filter beds. Brett Moore of Anderson-Perry & Associates was also on-site reviewing some issues regarding the intake facilities. There are several problems with the electrical controls and computer system, including the flow switch to shut off the chlorinator when the reservoir is full does not appear to be working. We reviewed procedures to clean the filter cells. The telescoping valves on the filter effluent control were set at the maximum head loss (46 inches) for 2 of the 3 filter cells. One filter had been partially cleaned and was likely taking at least 50% of the inflow which was 280 gpm. The raw water turbidity was 0.57 NTU and filtered water was 0.27 NTU, the chlorine residual at City Hall was 0.52 mg/l. A routine coliform sample was taken at City Hall (and was total coliform negative when completed). The town has many people coming in for the holiday weekend flea market. ACTION NEEDED: Contact HBH circuit rider to visit the system. Total coliform result to be submitted for data entry as routine sample for September. |
