Details: | SUMMARY: Arsenic Removal and other Water System Problems DETAILS: System operates 3 wells, 1 primary and two backup wells. The primary well feeds two pressure tanks. The larger of the two tanks is located on the far side of the system and is back fed through the system. The existing distribution system is in poor conditions with many leaks. Mr Brown contacted HBH for general assistance with leak detection and funding assistance. With the new MCL set by the EPA on arsenic, system is no longer meeting this requirement. During the last round of testing, the arsenic level was found to be 0.02 mgl which is beyond the limit of 0.01 mgl. Mr Brown requested help with the process of treating arsenic. I met with Mr Brown on site to review the water system issues and corresponded with him and county health department staff regarding requirements for the water system. I educated Mr Brown on potential funding sources for the water system improvements. I reviewed well logs for primary and back-up wells and recommended chemical testing to be done in preparation for arsenic removal. ACTION NEEDED: Assist system in preliminary arsenic removal technology selection when chemical testing is complete. Provide other assistance as requested. |
