Details: | SUMMARY: Positive coliform DETAILS: Mick called to say the 3 special samples he took 11/30/09 after disinfecting the east well for the second time were all positive. He said there is a valve next to the well that appears to be leaking. He can see water in the valve access hole which is very close to the well. I agreed that, along with a bad casing seal, could be contributing to the problem. I also told Mick we should be looking at some other options for correcting the problem, especially since the well I under 100 feet from a septic drain field. He referred me to Travis Lamb 541-915-4002 who is the system supervisor for all of the Hoodoo water system. I called Travis and advised him against pursuing chlorination as a solution for the problem because the state is not likely to approve chlorination of a well that is under 100 feet from a drain field. We discussed other options. 1) connecting the motel and house to the west well and either abandoning the east well or using it for irrigation only, or 2) connecting the motel to the west well and putting UV treatment on the east well for the house. Travis said that he plans to take a look at the situation and come up with a plan. He will let me know what he decides ACTION NEEDED: 52610 Well A, which was the source of the coliform problems, has been disconnected. Source info update submitted separately. First & 2nd quarter samples have been good. Return to compliance. |
