Details: | SUMMARY: Treatment Requirements for Rain Water DETAILS: Michael from Grand Cascade called with questions about treatment requirements for rain water should Pioneer Village Water Company wish to supplement their groundwater source with rain water catchment system. Tom C indicated that the policy within the DWP is that rain water is considered surface water and must received treatment in accordance with the SWTR and updates. Michael asked about cartridge filtration systems. I told Michael that only two are currently approved by DWP (Strainrite and Rosedale) and provided him the reference model numbers. I also explained that both are credited with 2 log removal of Giardia and Crypto and that an additional 1 log inactivation would be needed through some other treatment (e.g., disinfection with chlorine). I also encourage him to consider limiting the use of rainwater to non-potable use (e.g., irrigation) and thereby reduce the demand on their groundwater sources. I mentioned that the Pioneer Village Water Company, as a community system serving less than 10000 persons is eligible for technical assistance through HBH at not cost and provided contact info. ACTION NEEDED: None at this time. |
