Details: | SUMMARY: Emergency Response: Tornado DETAILS: A tornado touched down today in downtown Aumsville around 11:45 am. Chuck from OERS called to ask if we knew the status of the drinking water system. I tried calling the Public Works Director of Aumsville, Steve Oslie, but the phones were down, so I sent him an email inquiring about the integrity of the water system. I also called the Marion County Environmental Health Department to see if they had any information and learned that the manager, Rick Sherman, was on his way back from an on-site visit, so I left him a message. Rick called me back at 5pm to report that everything was good, the generator was working, everyone seems to have water, and there is no known damage to any water system components. Steve emailed back at 9pm and reported that "Water/sewer wise we are great. No damage to speak of for the city utilities. Power, gas, and homes were the main hit. Tomorrow will come another assessment to check the water tower." Luckily it appears no one was severly injured or killed. I called Chuck at OERS back on Wednesday morning 12/15 at 930 am to update him about what I heard from Rick and Steve. ACTION NEEDED: No further action at this time. It appears that the integrity of the water system is ok and everyone has water. News reports state that power is projected to be restored sometime today (Wednesday). The city has some water in storage and the generator is helping supply water. I will continue to monitor the situation and respond as needed. |
