Details: | SUMMARY: Nitrate violation DETAILS: I have spoken to Mary a number of times during the post couple of months. The ion exchange unit has been repaired but they are having trouble with nitrate removal system and have taken numerous assessment samples. These samples were taken as assessment samples only to determine the treatment system effectiveness. The operator has kept users of the system apprised via public notices of the repairs being made to the system and has made bottled water available. I met Mary at the system 12/22/10 and we discussed possible issues with the treatment not operating at peak efficiency. I recommended they take a raw sample to see if the raw water quality has changed. I also suggested that it may be necessary for more frequent recharge of the media or more treatment vessels. We also discussed the possibility that the brine solution feed tube could be partially occluded. She will check all of these as possible causes of the system not reducing the nitrate to lower levels. ACTION NEEDED: The system operator has indicated the system will be monitoring monthly for the next year instead of the required quarterly monitoring. They will continue to work with Fisher Pump to provide proper treatment to reduce the nitrate levels to below 5. Mary will keep me updated. | ||
