Details: | SUMMARY: OERS report for levee wash-out on Salmon River DETAILS: I received an OERS report that Linda Cook with Lane County Emergency Management called requesting state resources for a levee wash-out on Salmon Creek that put Oakridges 5 drinking water wells in danger of contamination. I spoke with Chuck Kurnick and Kevin Urban at Oakridge and left a message for Linda Cook. The Oakridge contacts said that the wells are not in immediate danger. Some of the armoring in the front of the levee (~1-2 feet) was washed away from heavy rains, but the river did not rise high enough to put the wells in danger. Oakridge has a plan in place for temporarily repairing the levee next week, and they are confident that the wells will remain safe because another heavy rain event is not forcasted for the immediate future and they have experience with protecting the wells from rising flood waters in the past. This summer they will install more permanent levee reinforcement. I e-mailed Kevin links to a boil water notice, how to disinfect a well, ORWARN, and guidance on building dikes to prevent flooding from the DWP Emergency Response Guide just in case. I also asked him to call Katrinka Danielson with Lane County and OERS again if needed. ACTION NEEDED: Kevin will call Katrinka and me next week when the levee has been repaired. |
