Details: | SUMMARY: Treatment plant visit to address boil water notice DETAILS: DWP conducted treatment plant inspection with Jim, and City of Rainier and OAWU, in response to reported NTU > 1.49 and chlorine residual at 0.03 mg/L on 3/18/11. Inspected chart recorders on 3/18, and in early am NTUs spiked up to only 0.95 NTU. Verfified low residual of 0.03 mg/L. The plant never spiked to 5 NTU on 3/18 as reported to DWP earlier. On 3/21 chart, turbidities spiked up to 1.4 NTU, as Jim was working to reconnect wires to instrument. Both on-line and benchtop calibrated to acceptable standards at Midland. Polymer dosages adjusted to bring NTUs down on 3/21. Residual restored to > 1 mg/L quickly after 3/18 low level, as verified on the charts. It was determined that even though NTUs never exceeded 1.49, that given such low residuals (almost no disinfection on 3/18-CTs not met), and questionable turbidities, that two routine bacti samples in system are needed before boil to be lifted. ACTION NEEDED: Jim to take 2 routine bactis on 3/25 in the am and take to lab. Results due on 3/25 or 3/26. Jim to have results sent to DWP on either Fri or Sat. to discuss lifting boil notice. Jim to replace polymer feed pump with more reliable version that communicates well with Streaming Current Meter. |
