Details: | SUMMARY: Main break DETAILS: Eric from the system called Monday 8am 5/23/11 to report a mainbreak that occurred over the weekend. A main broke around midnight Saturday 5/21 around midnight and the system was losing 560 gpm. The break was discovered and isolated around 7pm Sunday 5/22. Most services kept positive pressure except about 30 on the main line going to the distribution storage tank (distribution storage tank and 2000 of the main line serving it both emptied). Eric is going to collect a special coliform sample today in the area where pressure was lost. Until the break was discovered, the treatment plants kept making water and exceeded flow rates so CTs were not met (from about noon to 7:30 pm Sunday). Treatment plant reservoirs were at 200,000 gal and 100,000 gal so there was some CT (hes not sure exactly because he hasnt done the calculations yet). Chlorine residuals are currently 0.71 ppm in the distribution and 0.64 ppm at the farthest service. ACTION NEEDED: I asked Eric to do 4 things: 1) Figure out what the CTs were yesterday, 2) Notify the services that lost pressure to flush their lines and boil water until the special coliform test results are back, 3) flush the water out of the system that didnt have full CTs, and 4) do a tier 2 PN for the entire system within 30 days for not meeting CTs. |
