Details: | SUMMARY: Response to Boil Water Notice DETAILS: Phil updated me that Midland went on a pre-emptive boil water notice around 8 am on 8/2/11, due to a pump going down, and thus the ability to make water at this plant which is pressure-driven. System was down near its low level in the reservoir, and was concerned about losing positive pressure in the distribution system. Additionally, chlorine residuals were low (0.2 mg/L) at this system, which needs around 1 mg/L to usually meet CT requirements. System is calling all users 0n 8/2 according to a phone tree set up to notify users of the boil warning. As of 4 pm, pump is being replaced, system is on manual mode, water being made and reservoir being filled up. Pressure above 20 psi in system, chlorine residuals are 0.8 mg/L in distribution system, and turbidities are < 0.1 NTU. ACTION NEEDED: I indicated that residuals need to be taken at first user to ensure CTs being met, and that Midland would need to flush the system. System agreed to take August routine bacteria sample to consider lifting the boil notice. DWP forwarded Best Management Practices for low pressure and treatment/disinfection interruptions to operator. DWP to provide support to resolve boil notice. |
