Details: | SUMMARY: Pre-emptive do not drink notice DETAILS: Bob called to update me that PGE Beaver will be issuing a precautionary do not drink notice and placarding accordingly sinks and fountains around the plant in response to dropping chlorine residual readings in system. System will be providing bottled water to all employees. System residuals dropped from 1-1.2 mg/l to 0.2 mg/L in five days, due to high chlorine demand in their elevated tower and heavy use, and expected to drop more. Plant off since 4/5, with CTs being met at that time, and system going off water in elevated tower. I explained that system is required to maintain a detectable residual at all times in distribution and this notification is pre-emptive by the plant at this time. We discussed addressing causes of high chlorine demand in tower and system. System will need to follow Best Management Practices for treatment / disinfection interruptions to come off self-initiated do not drink notice. BMP forwarded to system. ACTION NEEDED: System will post notice and do not drink placards today (4/9), and work with DWP to lift restriction, and notify employees accordingly. DWP to support system to re-establish treatment and disinfection, ensure NTUs and CTs met with detectable residual throughout distribution and other necessary steps to lift pre-emptive notification. DWP to support system in addressing causes of high chlorine residual demand in elevated tower and system. |
