Details: | SUMMARY: Follow up on notitification regarding low chlorine levels DETAILS: Bob called me on 4/9 around 3 pm to update me that as he was beginning to post pre-emptive do not drink notices around plant midday on 4/9, he was notified that the clearwell had a full volume (approx. 25,000 gal) of clarified, filtered water ready to be disinfected to help make potable water to help boost chlorine residual in system. He ensured all pumps and valves operational, then filled hydro tank and waited for 45 minutes of hold time, with outlet to tank closed. He then took a chlorine reading at outlet of hydro tank, and determined CTs met (Actual CT of 50 vs. Required CT of 46). He then opened up flow into the distribution system and took a second chlorine residual at first user (lab sink) and determined CTs again met (Actual CT - 52, Required CT - 46). Finally, residuals taken in the distribution system and they ranged from 0.7 to 1.0 milligrams per liter, indicating residual maintained throughout system. Pre-emptive do not drink notices not posted at plant. ACTION NEEDED: DWP recommended PGE take April coliform sample this week, and to support PGE in meeting all turbidity and disinfection requirements, as well as maintaining a detectable chlorine residual at all times in distribution system. I reiterated that DWP to be consulted even as systems decide to lift pre-emptive precautionary do not drink notices. |
