| Details: | SUMMARY: flooded well and e. coli DETAILS: There will be a follow up contact report written by Dept. of Ag. This is a response to the series of e. coli hits, and nitrate, the system received from 5/7-13. It is reasoned that a severe weather event caused the primary well vault (well #1) to flood on or around 4/23/12. The initial distribution sample was positive for fecal as well as one repeat sample and multiple raw source (well #1) samples. The system does have UV and chlorine, however, both forms of treatment had not been maintained. Since the incident, UV bulbs have been replaced and the chlorinator has been set up properly. The main well has been batch chlorinated once, but will be chlorinated a second time with the well water being pumped to waste. Detectable chlorine has been maintained in the facility. Once the primary well has been cleaned out again, additional source samples will be collected. If clear, the system can resume using this well (well #1). Also, two nitrate samples were collected with results between 17-18 ppm. ACTION NEEDED: Public notices/Do Not Drink Orders were put up immediately. The system is to batch chlorinate well #1 again, flush, and resample. Nitrate treatment has been non-functional for an extended period of time and this will need to be addressed and put back into service. Additional steps will be put in place to help reduce the liklihood of this happening in the future. | ||
