Details: | SUMMARY: Loss of Pressure Leads to Boil Order DETAILS: 7/28/12 – At approximately 6:10 am Saturday a landslide occurred that damaged a section of the transmission line that runs between the city’s well/reservoir and town. The reservoir did not drain completely before city staff arrived and closed the reservoir outlet valve, but 300,000 gallons or more likely flowed out through the broken line, washing soil and mud down into Pine Creek. A boil water warning was distributed later that day due to a loss of pressure in most areas of town. Some areas at the lowest elevations maintained a low positive pressure. A temporary intertie was established between the city system and Smith Frozen Foods, PWS #4190234, by connecting two fire hydrants. A potable water tanker was brought in so residents could fill water jugs, several portable toilets were placed throughout town, and a mobile shower unit was brought in. Pressure was restored throughout the city system by late Saturday evening, but the boil order remained in effect. ACTION NEEDED: City to complete repairs to transmission line, pressure test and flush, restore connection to distribution system, maintain chlorine residual in the interim, collect routine sample for August after chlorine residual is non-detectable. |
