Details: | SUMMARY: Assist temporary operator with sample collection and operations DETAILS: I received a call from Jeff Martin (Klickitat Co) regarding the water sample from Mosier that he tested for Dave Griffin (temporary operator for the system). The sample tested positive for e coli. This sample was taken from the fire hose outside hose bib that had a hose on it. The water was run for 4/5 minute then the hose was removed/sprayed with 12% bleach then run again prior to sampling. Klickitat Co. is not an Oregon approved water testing laboratory. What started all of this was failure of the main well #4 on 7/12/12. The VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) failed and then the motor failed. Well #4 is chlorinated with Calcium Hypochlorite as the water is pumped into the distribution system. On 7/19/12, the emergency well #3 was put on line. This is a non chlorinated source and was not sampled prior to placing it in service. I contacted Dave Griffin and John Grimm (City Engineer) 509-365-5421 to discuss what is taking place with the water system. I asked that routine samples be taken from the well #3 source and one from the east side of the system and one from the west side. In addition to the bacteriological sample a Nitrate sample was taken. I delivered the samples to TD water treatment for testing 7/18/12 at 6:45 PM. The system still had traces when the samples were taken: East side at .08 ppm and The west side at .03 ppm. John Grimm was planning on batch chlorinating the reservoir to 2 ppm 7/18/12 in the evening and 7/19/12 the fire department was going to do some flushing of the system to move the chlorinated water through distribution. Repair parts for well #4 are suppose to arrive and be installed and should be back on line late Thursday. The Dalles Water Quality Lab might have the results of bacteriological test late today or first thing on Friday the 20th. ACTION NEEDED: None |
