Details: | SUMMARY: Water Treatment Plant Engineering Evaluation DETAILS: HBH was contacted by DWS staff to assist with a treatment plant optimization and troubleshooting exercise for this system’s treatment plant. The plant is an older package plant. The water intake is in a small reservoir which is on an intermittent stream. The reservoir has experienced algae growth and stagnant water issues. As part of previous recommendations, the water system has added a small bubbler system for aeration/mixing. The Bay Hill WA has 19 connections and serves water to an estimated 49 people. HBH visited water system and inspected raw water source. Provided on-site engineering evaluation of the treatment plant while Jason Canady and DWP staff performs chemical process optimization. Determined that the filter media had been changed from the original design to include Granular Activated Carbon rather than Anthracite as the top layer media, necessitating a need for a change in the backwash scheme and/or tough to avoid loss of media. Also, discovered that the settling tubes are not at an optimal angle and performance could possibly be improved through a retrofit. ACTION NEEDED: Continue correspondence with DWP and Water system as needed. |
