Details: | SUMMARY: two Ecoli samples DETAILS: There was some initial confusion on Friday as to why two distribution samples had been taken, and whether one was possibly a source sample. It was later determined that neither was a source sample, and the reason two had been collected was operator had used a coliform bottle to take what he thought was one nitrate sample . .Sequence of events:Sometime before + samples were taken, they had been flushing the two reservoirs for routine maintenance. But when the tanks refilled, they drew out all the chlorine from the chlorine reservoir, and it remained undiscovered for awhile.Upon instruction from the lab, they took 4 or 5 more distribution samples on Friday 12/21 and had them tested over the weekend ($ouch!).They talked to us late in day on Friday and got the Boil Water notice out to everybody, and supplied bottled drinking water to the residents. Spoke to Steve today 12/26 to clarify timeline of events and what had happened since Friday. He took in a source sample and a nitrate sample today. He also said that some of the repeat samples taken on Friday were positive. These have not yet been reported to SDWIS. They chlorinated their system over the weekend, using 3 gallons of bleach for each 1500 gallon reservoir. Steve promised to fax a copy of the BW notice to the state, and said he was not sure how to take the residual chlorine readings he is supposed to do regularly. I will stop by and do a site visit on Friday to check that his kit is working and there is not something else amiss. ACTION NEEDED: TBD, based on results from samples to be taken in January, and the results of the pending source sample. |
