| Details: | SUMMARY: Report of Major Water Leak DETAILS: Bob called in this morning to report that the Detroit Water System is having a major water leak in their distribution line. Bob became of the leak about a week ago when demand increased approx. 10 - 20 gpm per day. It is now about 100 gpm extra demand. Bob is currently able to run his treatment plant to meet the demand of the system with the leak, but does not know if this is sustainable situation. He has identified the area of town the leak is occuring in - namely the NE corner of town in residential area. I emailed Bob a copy of both the BMP for Service Outages/Reduced Pressure Events, and the BMP for Repairing Main Lines. I discussed with Bob that ideally if he knew he was going to have to isolate the area (ie not able to keep up with demand) it was preferrable to shut off individual service connections first - or the residents would need to go on a boil water. We also discussed that once the repair was made, that he needed to flush the lines and then take bacteriological sample(s). A boil notice would remain in effect until the results of the testing were received and showed no bacterial contamination. ACTION NEEDED: Wait for further notice of situation from Bob. | ||
