Details: | SUMMARY: Unusual raw water turbidity event DETAILS: Jim just called to report an odd raw water turbidity level around dinnertime Monday night (8.26.13). He simply shutdown the plant. A rare raw turbidity reading of 4 NTU, in August with no accompanying rain event, is befuddling. Jim recalibrated his 1720E and it was not out of calibration. And he recently checked the turbidity alarms that very morning. (1.0 NTU is a warning. 2.0 NTU is an alarm. 8.0 NTU is auto-shutdown) BLM is working in the area which may have attracted opposition. One speculative suspected cause is that the sandbags that create a diversion dam near the intake were lightly damaged somehow and released a little sand to create the turbidity. ACTION NEEDED: none. Keep an eye out for unusual activity in the watershed. The event - whatever it was - appears to have passed. |
