Details: | SUMMARY: PNC and temp routine sampling DETAILS: I reminded Tim that he needed to take the temp routines still. He said he was going to do it this week. I also reminded him that we still needed one of the 6 source samples that they labeled "special" taken on 7/23 and/or 7/24 turned in. He said he would ask the lab to do that. We went over the deficiencies at the counter. He said he had an appt. set up to meet with a well driller to look at their current well and discuss the issues they have been having. I emailed Tom P. to find out why the casing seal was condsidered inadequate. Tim wanted to give something to the well driller to look at. Toms response: "The Well Log indicates that the casing is 6 inches in diameter, the hole is 10 inches in diameter to a depth of 18, and then only 6 inches in diameter below 18 ft. The lower half of the split seal is reported to be from 37 to 42 ft where both the hole and the casing have been reported to be 6 inches in diameter. If both the hole and the casing are 6 inches in diameter, there is no room for the lower half of the split seal. Therefore, we consider the well construction to be inadequate. It is possible that there is a typographic error on the well log and that the hole is 10 inches in diameter all the way down to 42 ft but without documentation of that, we can’t change our evaluation. Also, as a general rule, we don’t recommend that public water supply wells be reconstructed unless there is a water quality problem. We’ve had a couple of instances where water suppliers have proactively started to reconstruct their wells and ultimately wound up creating bigger problems for themselves either due to a damaged casing and/or no change in water quality.
