Details: | SUMMARY: Boil Water Notification for Turbidity Event DETAILS: Jeff Miller called to report a high turbidity event that ocurred from midnight to 7 AM on 2/19/14. Due to a storm, raw NTU climbed to 60 NTU in the night. The conventional package plant could not adequately treat the water and the combined filter effluent ranged from 0.3 to 34 NTU during that timeframe. The plant is equipped with an auto-shut off and alarm set to 0.3 NTU, but it malfunctioned and about 6,000 gallons of offspec water entered the clearwell. The clearwell was not isolated from the distribution in time to assure that water was not served to customers. Per our requirements, Jeff issued a tier-1 boil water notification to users around noon today. ACTION NEEDED: The system must either waste the water remaining in the clearwell or turnover the volume of the clearwell three times to assure high turbidity water is flushed out of the system. In addition, high velocity flushing of the distribution must be completed and coliform samples must be analyzed showing no coliform bacteria is present before the boil water notice can be lifted. |
