Details: | SUMMARY: EC and TC pos in routine sample DETAILS: The water system received notification 5/10/14 that the sample was pos for EC. One repeat sample was taken from an alternate location on 5/10 (which was negative). On 5/10 the water system received advice from the water lab to chlorinate the well because of the threat of E.Coli in the water. The water system took the advice of the water lab and chlorinated the system without taking the required additional repeat samples. I spoke with the water lab 5/12 about their advice to chlorinate the water system without the required samples. Because of the weekend, the threat of EColi and the water lab was closed on 5/10 so not additional samples could be taken until 5/12, the lab felt it necessary to have the water system chlorinated to protect the families health. Families were contacted by Marilynn and told to boil water that was going to be used for consumption until the well was chlorinated. There was no written public notice issued. I discussed with the water system the sampling plan procedures, and how they were designed to find the source of contamination. We also discussed the health departments role in helping water systems through events such as this and the need for the water system to call for help even on holidays and weekends. ACTION NEEDED: 1. take 3 repeat samples when there is no chlorine residual. 2. determine source of positive sampling. 3. follow coliform sampling plan in the future. | ||
