Details: | SUMMARY: Reservoir Cracking/Settling DETAILS: The Vineyard Mountain Water Association operates a small water system that serves 325 people through 125 connections. The source for the water system is 3 wells at the bottom of the system. Water is chlorinated and pumped up to the first of 3 reservoirs. The first 40+ services flow out of the first reservoir level. Another pump station boosts water up to a second and then third water reservoir and pressure zone with approximately equal numbers of water services. Water Barken contacted the Circuit Rider regarding cracking and possible settling of one of the smaller reservoirs. A crack sealing contractor had been hired to seal cracks and fill voids underneath the reservoir. When Mr. Barken called, the contractor had injected more void filling material than expected. Discussed void issue with Mr. Barken. Contacted a geotechnical engineer for advice on the issue. The amount of void material injected was not of significant concern. However, the water system should watch for signs of material settling around the reservoir. They should also periodically inspect the tank for worsening cracks. ACTION NEEDED: None needed at this time. |
