Details: | SUMMARY: Follow up to boil water - high NTU DETAILS: Phil updated me today on the steps the Assn. has taken after the high NTU - boil water notice issued in late September. System has cut the demand flow from 120,000 to 60,000 gal/day by fixing several large leaks. This combined with running the plant close to 24 hours a day, has limited the peak flow through the filter plant to 50 gpm, and turbidity levels have been consistently below the maximum level of 1.49 NTU. Chlorine residuals at the entry point have been at least 1.0 mg/L, and 0.9 mg/L in the distribution, with CTs met for disinfection. The distribution system has been flushed out. Three coliform bacteria samples collected 11/4 have all returned coliform absent on 11/7. ACTION NEEDED: Midland to notify customers that water is safe to use after they flush household plumbing. Minimum level in reservoir will be increased to the minimum 8 level simulated in the tracer study, and the system will contact DWS within 24 hours if the filtered turbidity increases above 1.49 NTU. DWS to continue to support system to meet surface water treatment requirements. |
