Details: | SUMMARY: Went to look at system and especially spring due to confirmed E. coli at the spring source. DETAILS: Reviewed sampling technique. Samples were taken by hand-dipping bottle into spring box. This was done because there is still no sample tap on the spring source. Also noted distances to surface water and made drawing, sent to Shawn Stevenson and Rebecca Templin. Noted that new well that has been tagged for plan review has an entry point into the spring box. Thus the water in the spring box is co-mingled. Currently operator has shut off the spring from entering the system and the new well is also shut down. Levi indicated the additional water is not needed during the winter months, there are no camps scheduled until February 2015. ACTION NEEDED: Source samples requested to be invalidated by DMCE. Operator required to install approved sample tap for spring source and submit documents, samples for plan review with Rebecca Templin. Rebecca to review the connection of the new well into the spring box. I advised operator that the new well should enter the water system separately to allow each singular source to be sampled when required. Due to the E. coli, I recommended operator practice 4-log disinfection as a safety measure, maintaining a 0.4 mg/L residual at first user. When the corrections are made system will start source assessment monitoring. |
