Details: | SUMMARY: Coliform sampling DETAILS: As a result of your call I reviewed the data on the Drinking Water Program Website. According to the website, both rest areas operate year around thus are required to take a coliform sample each quarter of the year (January – March, April – June, July – September, and October – December). You told me that you had contacted our office and told us that both systems would not be operating during May 2015, June 2015 and part of July 2015. It appears that the systems did operate during in April 2015 (the second quarter, April – June) thus needed to sample. According to the data base, samples were taken: March 20, 2014 (First Quarter 2014), June 12, 2014 ( Second Quarter 2014), September 15, 2014 (Third Quarter 2014), October 23, 2014 (fourth Quarter 2014), and February 12, 2015 (First Quarter 2015). The data base has no more recent sample results. Thus it appears that the violation notice is correct. ACTION NEEDED: Post a Public Notice stating that the drinking water was not sampled during the second quarter of this year. A model notice is attached below. After the current work on the water systems is completed and before the water is available to the public for drinking, disinfect and flush the system. Then sample the water for coliform bacteria. If the sample is good (negative for bacteria) make the water available to the public. If the sample is bad (positive for coliform bacteria, contact this office). After the required quarterly samples are taken and the results are negative, the violation will be removed. |
