Details: | SUMMARY: Verification of Log Inactivation of Viruses DETAILS: The Hopewell Water Company owns and operates a groundwater system which is located just north of Salem. The water company has 45 connections and an approximate population of 100. The system is a rural system with significant lengths of small diameter pipe. The primary source for the system is Nelson Spring. The Circuit Rider was contacted by the water system because they are on a boil notice due to e. Coli positives in the spring water. It is a requirement that the system show adequate inactivation through disinfection. An attempt was made to determine contact time in the pipe to the first user, which would allow for the boil notice to be lifted. Following completion of a contact tracer testing methodology, which included peak flow projections, it was determined that a calculation of plug flow contact time in the transmission piping to the first user may be sufficient for virus inactivation and required in the Ground Water Rule. Performed a hydraulic analysis of the transmission piping to first user. Completed memo regarding compliance with the Ground Water Rule virus inactivation requirements. Submitted memo to Gary Vanderveen (Yamhill County) and Fred Kalish (OHA-DWS). ACTION NEEDED: None needed at this time. |
