Details: | SUMMARY: lead and copper alerts, further DBP discussion DETAILS: Jim phoned before Id received the alert. The copper result was way off the chart for the girls bathroom. This was one of the two sites that had scored over the action level in the past, but nothing like these results. Several months ago, Jim replaced various piping and a couple fixtures to alleviate the lead and copper levels. (This sink had not been replaced, but it had low levels when tested last January after the piping was replaced.) He says he realized that for this collection, he did not flush the girls bathroom sink the night before, and there had been no water use there for 3 months (no students). Therefore, the sample did not reflect normal use. I asked him to send me an email requesting invalidation for that one location, and the reasons why it was not representative. He’ll re-take this sample within the same sampling period. Regarding DBPs, it sounds like we will request the Circuit Riders assistance to help Jim determine the best way to avoid having to add so much more chlorine when the organic matter rises in early fall, and therefore prevent the formation of DBPs at these levels. ACTION NEEDED: Now that the students have been using the water for a while now, Jim will collect another lead and copper sample from the girls bathroom. He will email me an invalidation request for the 9/9/15 sample from the girls bathroom. Will pursue circuit rider assistance with their annual early fall spike in chlorine demand and DBP levels. | ||
