Details: | SUMMARY: Technical Consultation - Source Well DETAILS: Mr. Simmons contacted us via e-mail. He asked: “The prior owner of the current water system, Char Branton, has expressed an interest in selling the well located on her property to the Home Owners Association. As you know, her well has a drainfield partially within the 100’ radius. If we did buy it (and an easement) would we be able to use it as long as it is functional and water tests are clean? Our plan has been to drill a new well that would conform to state standards for distance between sewer lines and septic systems, but buying her well would provide a proven water source with possible savings. Those savings could be applied to improving or replacing the existing community drain field which does not meet DEQ size guidelines.” We responded by contacting Mr. Simmons via phone. We stated that the current well is approved for use and would remain approved so long as the water remained safe. We stated that the well has problems-- these include the fact that the well is located inside a private home/garage and that it (likely) does not meet minimum set-back distances from existing wastewater facilities. Also, ownership of the well and home may be difficult to separate (and certainly difficult to manage). ACTION NEEDED: Submit plans for formal review prior to making any system changes. Contact Hood River County Health Department for specifics. |
