Details: | SUMMARY: IFE turbidity trigger questions DETAILS: The monthly surface water treatment operating report for January 2016 submitted by the water system indicated that the individual filter effluent (IFE) turbidity triggers had been exceeded. I reviewed the report and contacted the water system. There was a misunderstanding regarding what the IFE turbidity triggers were on the part of the operator. I sent information and the rule citation under OAR 333-061-0040(1)(d)(C) for the IFE turbidity triggers, which indicates that for systems serving less than 10,000 people with conventional or direct filtration, the triggers are 1 and 2 NTU, not the 0.3 NTU that the operator had thought. The water system followed up with a corrected report on March 2, 2016 indicating that the turbidity triggers had not been exceeded. ACTION NEEDED: No further action needed at this time. System to report by the 10th of the following month if 2 consecutive readings taken 15 minutes apart exceed 1.0 NTU for any filter, 2 consecutive readings taken 15 minutes apart exceed 1.0 NTU at the same filter for 3 months in a row (a filter self-assessment must also be completed within 14 days of this exceedance), or if 2 consecutive readings taken 15 minutes apart exceed 2.0 NTU at the same filter for 2 months in a row (a Comprehensive Performance Evaluation (CPE) must also be completed within 60 days of this exceedance). |
