Details: | SUMMARY: WTP operations DETAILS: Harry called phone duty to ask if the requirement for filter backwash was 72 hours of filter run time only, or 72 hours on the clock. He said they run their plant for 8-10 hours each day and it is off the rest of the time. I said it was not a requirement, but a recommendation to start a filter run on a clean (backwashed) filter. He thought that seemed reasonable and they have made changes to their backwash pond so that this can happen easier. He also asked about peak hourly flow calculations. He said sometimes (maybe twice a month) the flow is so low or for just a few minutes at a time, that it is difficult to calculate the peak hourly flow. He said that during these times, they would like to estimate and record the peak hourly flow to be 30 gpm. Their tracer study was done at a much higher flow and they have plenty of contact time. I said this seemed reasonable as long as they document what they are doing in a procedure so everyone understands what to do and what it means. ACTION NEEDED: None necessarily, but state contact can follow up if anything I said needs clarification. Also he said he is new, so not sure if he is the new contact or DRC. |
