Details: | SUMMARY: update on UV install, DBPs DETAILS: Plans are to install the UV reactor soon (Maximum Treatment for LT2 compliance). As for DBP compliance, Jim recently drained the post-coagulant settling tanks and was surprised to find a substantial amount of black gooey sludge in the trough of the settling tanks. He will start cleaning that out more often. He thinks that could make a difference in DBP formation. He will be interested to see if the recent cleaning results in lower DBPs in the next monitoring, which will probably be collected in November. They have not discussed whether they will make any adjustments in chlorine usage after installing the UV unit, partly because the chlorine also removes iron and manganese in addition to disinfection. I let Jim know that since so much time has gone by, we will be drafting an informal enforcement letter for correcting the DBP levels. I also reviewed with him their current types of treatment to update our database. (Was not updated in SDWIS after they re-built the plant and changed treatment in 2012.) ACTION NEEDED: Await results of next DBP samples. Submit treatment updates to DMCE. Send informal enforcement letter requesting that they submit a corrective action plan for DBP compliance. |
