Details: | SUMMARY: exceedance reported for TTHM, no MCL violation DETAILS: Two of the 8 recent quarterly sample locations exceeded in TTHM. The annual average is still below the MCL, so no violation. Albany is very concerned about these trends, and have pulled together a group to work on the problem. They are using two approaches: 1) optimizing the distribution and storage to reduce water age. Will obtain consulting help to look at mixing zones in tanks, optimize pump operations, etc. 2) The recent results occurred after a storm when the TOC and nitrates spiked, and operators had likewise noticed an increase in chlorine demand. Albany has continuous sensors for TOC and nitrate at WTP-B (Santiam River source, membrane trmt), which did show a spike. They plan to get similar sensors placed on the incoming water at WTP-A as well. Storm spikes in these parameters (TOC & nitrate) do not seem to occur at both plants at the same time, so the thinking is that if they can see those increases coming, they could shut down the affected plant and run off the other one. ACTION NEEDED: None at this time | ||
